During Honk!TX 2014, ENSMB was able to play a gig with our pals, Wino Vino, while we were visiting their hometown of Austin, TX. It was my first time experiencing their intense balkan/folk/cabaret musical performance. Jumping from the stage onto patrons’ tables to blast out shrill trumpet licks was encouraged. Ceiling fans were a surprise hazard for sousaphones. And I lost my shorts there. Literally lost my favorite shorts.
Somerville Symphony Orkestar
A short four months later, Wino Vino is on tour and we had to have a gig together. And the salo in this ENSMB-Wino Vino sandwich was the Somerville Symphony Orkestar whose Eastern European punk funk tied us all together at the Middle East nightclub in Cambridge.
The bands played great, and the audience was sweaty and dancing. But there was clearly something that stole that show. It was between the legs of David Gilden, trumpeter for Wino Vino… David’s cute dog was onstage between David’s legs through the whole performance! The dog was very well behaved, but shy, and faced away from the audience for most of the show.
